Dutch teak wood, apparently not teak and not from the Netherlands
Not a few people think that Dutch Teak is teak wood that comes from the Netherlands. In fact, this wood is not real teak but pine wood, and grows not only in the Netherlands.
It is called Dutch Teak because in ancient times, this wood was often used as pallet wood for shipping goods to and from the country. Plus, the ancients associated foreign countries with the Netherlands. This is why the wood is called Dutch Teak.
The properties and characteristics of Dutch teak wood
Dutch teak, which is made from pine trees, is softer than other wood varieties. Dutch teak tends to be resistant to shocks.
Although not as strong as real teak, Dutch teak is quite resistant to hard impacts. The formation process is also easier because it is very soft.
Dutch teak also has very distinctive characteristics. Among others are:
- Lighter weight than other wood
- Brighter colors (light yellow, cream, and brownish red)
- Very fine wood grain
